Most companies started their journey from analytics to AI some years ago by jumping on the data science train. In those days data scientist was assumed to be the most sexy job of the 21st century. With the first use cases the appetite for more analytics increased. But there is also a long list of failed projects. Now, we have GenAI and everybody is jumping on the AI train. That is a good point in time, to take a moment to ask what are the lessons learned from the journey so far? And where will we go next?

Hannah Richta is Head of Algorithms for Operations at DB InfraGO. She is an economist and gained a broad knowledge in AI and Data in several roles at DB Cargo and DB InfraGO. She started her career in railroading in 2012 at DB Cargo. Her previous roles included lean and IT management as well as building DB Cargo’s first dedicated data science team and leading a project to predict estimated times of arrival for freight trains by machine learning. She publishes in trade magazines on a regular basis and speaks occasionally at trade events.
